Not surprisingly, Calabria's water sports are second to none. With mile upon mile of golden coastline, numerous windsurfers, scuba divers, snorkellers, sailors and deep sea fisherman flock to Calabria to spend enjoyable hours pursuing their favourite pastimes. In addition, there are a number specialist dive centres along the coast where you can learn to dive and explore some of the 50 sunken ships around the area that date back to the 4th century.
If you want to spend some time relaxing in the sun, most beaches feature excellent value lidos offering chair and umbrella rental, private bars, beach games, babysitting and play clubs for children. And of course, there are always private boats to take you to a deserted cove if you crave some time away from everyone else.
If beach and surf don't appeal, golf has become one the most popular pastimes in Calabria. There are two nine-hole courses to choose from: Golf Feudo Montalo in Limbadi and Montechiarello near Reggio di Calabria, and there are plans to build a third right on the doorstep of Bianco. During spring and summer there are numerous hiking and trekking opportunities throughout Calabria's stunning national parks, not to mention excellent winter skiing facilities in the central mountainous area of the region.
